How the NSP Solar Pump will modernize access to sanitary drinking water around the world.

The UN estimates that nearly 800 million people do not have access to clean drinking water. Of that number, 6 to 8 million die each year from water-related diseases. Pumpmakers is striving to alleviate the global water crisis with the NSP Solar Pump, the world’s first maintenance-free and corrosion-resistant water system. The pump’s affordability and efficiency makes it an accessible source of water for people living in rural and remote areas. One pump assembled in Mozambique in 2012 supplies 800 villagers with up to 5,000 liters of clean water each day.

Current pump systems require expensive fuel, specific weather conditions, or nearly constant maintenance to run. The NSP Solar Pump, however, requires no back-up electricity, efficiently pumps up to depths of 300 feet even on cloudy days, and comes equipped with an optional hand pump for pumping water at night. Pumpmakers also provides free access to their easy instructions and construction plans so their pump can be assembled locally, fostering economic development while providing safe water.

Pumpmakers launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund the $300,000 needed to launch the NSP Solar Pump on an international platform.
