Mountain Man is not a grizzled, hairy recluse but a trio of female singers who weave their voices together to create a gauzy, gossamer kind of folk. Their mostly a cappella music is equal parts Carter Sisters and Cocteau Twins, managing to sound both traditional and fresh. Love of the sound of language and the wonder of nature runs through their lyrics–“bright baby eyes of a chickadee” is a memorable phrase from “Animal Tracks”–and a deep personal bond is apparent in their intuitive harmonies.
