A Declaration of Energy Independence

The Energy Future Coalition, supported by executives from
organizations as diverse as Shell Oil and the Sierra Club, recently
called for a ‘one-third reduction in U.S. [energy] consumption and
a one-third reduction in carbon dioxide emissions over the next 25
years,’ reports the environmental Webzine Grist.
Meanwhile, the labor-supported Apollo Alliance has requested ‘a
10-year, $300 billion federal investment in clean-energy
technologies and green building’ which, they argue, will create at
least a million new jobs. Both initiatives will not only help the
environment and the economy, but will also limit our reliance on
foreign sources of fuel.
