Kurdistan PM Calls for Eradication of Honour
Crimes Against Women, R. M. Ahmad,

Women’s rights in Kurdistan were raised significantly when Prime
Minister Nechervan Barzany announced the eradication of honor
cleansing–a common practice in the region in which a woman can be
tortured and killed in the name of preserving her husband’s or
family’s reputation. R.M. Ahmad in KurdishMedia.com
reports of the leader’s announcement at the capital earlier this
month, saying that Kurdistan Parliament is expected to invalidate
all Iraqi Laws that condone the custom, including the 1983 Iraqi
law that says ‘any man is free to kill his mother or sister or
daughter or an aunt for reasons of honour cleansing.’
